About Bassvictim

Dense yet deceptively sparse, the music of Bassvictim is built from rattling percussion, warped harp tones and wailing synths. Formed in London in 2022, the electronic duo pairs Polish-English singer-songwriter Maria Manow with American-English producer Ike Clateman, and their records evoke earlier eras without ever seeming secondhand.

The pair first crossed paths on a trip to Berlin in the summer of 2022, when both were students at Goldsmiths, University of London, and they reconnected a few months later outside the south London club Peckham Audio. The name grew from that night, when Clateman had stepped outside for a break from the sound inside. Their debut album, Forever, arrived on 10 October 2025, and Pitchfork gave it 7.5 and placed it 49th on its list of the 50 best albums of 2025. Later that month the publication picked "Mr. President" for its weekly playlist, and in December NME credited the duo with helping ignite an electroclash revival alongside Snow Strippers and The Hellp.
