About Benny Ibarra
Benny Ibarra's career is as family-rooted as any in Mexican pop. Born in 1970, he grew up among performers: his mother Julissa acted and sang in the 1960s, and his father, also named Benny, sang for the rock band Los Yaki. His brother Alejandro is also a singer and actor. Ibarra joined the pop group Timbiriche in 1981 and began his solo work in 1992, while also producing, playing instruments and acting. Between 1985 and 1989 he studied jazz, guitar, classical music and composition at the Walnut Hill School in Boston.
His solo breakthrough was El Tiempo (1994), which went platinum and carried Sin Tí, Cielo and Mía to number one across Latin America. Todo O Nada (2001) brought in Erik Rubin, Alix Bauer and Alex González of Maná, and its single Uno topped the charts for eight weeks. Llueve Luz (2003), made with Chetes and Miguel Bosé, went gold, and Así (2005) reached gold within 48 hours. He rejoined Timbiriche for reunions and anniversaries, formed the trio Sasha, Benny y Erik from 2012 to 2016, and in 2017 marked the group's 35th anniversary with its founders.
