About Black Marble
Black Marble is the project of Chris Stewart, an electronic musician who formed it in Brooklyn, New York, in 2011. Ty Kube of Team Robespierre was once part of the lineup. The music leans on a cold, nostalgic electronic palette, and SLUG's Kristin Porter heard amplified vocals and pastel-coloured synths shaped by a happy-sad mood.
The project's debut EP, Weight Against the Door, came out on Hardly Art in 2012, followed that year by the full-length A Different Arrangement. Miami New Times described those early records as throwbacks to the cold-wave genre. Second album It's Immaterial arrived on Ghostly International in 2016, marking Kube's departure and Stewart's move to the West Coast. Bigger Than Life, released on Sacred Bones Records in October 2019, was announced with the single "One Eye Open". Fast Idol followed in October 2021, which Pitchfork's Sophie Kemp linked to New Order and OMD.
