About Black Stone Cherry
Chris Robertson and John Fred Young started playing music together as teenagers in Edmonton, Kentucky, and the band they formed there in June 2001 quickly drew a following of all ages. Young's father was rhythm guitarist with The Kentucky Headhunters, whose practice house the new band took over. Today Robertson sings and plays guitar alongside Ben Wells on guitar, Steve Jewell on bass and Young on drums, a line-up behind eight studio albums and three EPs.
Their self-titled debut arrived in May 2006, and a homecoming show in the gym of the local middle school drew around 1500 people. Folklore and Superstition followed in August 2008, and that year the band supported Def Leppard and Whitesnake on a UK arena tour. Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, produced by Howard Benson, came out in 2011, and Magic Mountain reached number five on the UK albums chart in 2014. Kentucky, recorded in Glasgow, Kentucky, gave them a second consecutive number one on the Billboard Hard Rock albums chart in 2016, and the latest record, Screamin' at the Sky, appeared in 2023.
