About Boo Hewerdine
Boo Hewerdine is a singer-songwriter and record producer whose songs have often reached audiences through other people's voices. Born Mark Hewerdine, he grew up in North London before moving to Cambridge as a child. As a teenager he worked in the warehouse of Andy's Records in Bury St Edmunds, where he was exposed to a wide range of music. That grounding carried into a career that includes solo albums, production work and a long association with Eddi Reader.
The Bible, formed in 1985 with jazz drummer Tony Shepherd, released Walking the Ghost Back Home on Norwich's Backs Records in 1986, and a re-recorded "Graceland" gave the band their biggest hit, reaching number 51 in 1989. Hewerdine left in 1990 and turned to solo work, including Evidence, written with Darden Smith, and the 1992 debut Ignorance. He also wrote music for the 1997 film adaptation of Nick Hornby's Fever Pitch. Later work includes God Bless the Pretty Things, recorded in Glasgow in 2009, and State of the Union, a partnership with Brooks Williams whose album came out on Reveal Records in 2012.
