About Brandon Lake

Brandon Lake learned guitar on his own, using YouTube to work out songs by Third Day and Chris Tomlin after his pastor father showed him a few basic chord progressions. Michael Brandon Lake, born in 1990, grew up in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, playing with the worship team at his church before Seacoast Church in Charleston hired him to lead worship for its college ministry. He still writes at Seacoast, and that church-bred apprenticeship shows in his work as a contemporary Christian singer-songwriter and guitarist, whose songs are built for congregations to sing back.

His recording career began in 2015 with a GoFundMe campaign that drew 101 donors and paid for the independent release of Closer in 2016. Signing with Bethel Music in January 2019 led to his version of Tasha Cobbs Leonard's "This Is a Move", which debuted at number 36 on Hot Christian Songs and earned a Dove Award and Grammy nod. House of Miracles reached number six on the Top Christian Albums chart, and Help!, about mental health, followed in 2022. "Graves into Gardens", his collaboration with Elevation Worship, gave both acts their first Hot Christian Songs number one.
