About Cæcilie Norby
Few Danish singers have moved as easily between rock and jazz as Cæcilie Norby, whose career runs from a founding role in Street Beat to a solo catalogue of reworked pop songs. Born in Frederiksberg in 1964 into a musical household, with a classical composer for a father and an opera singer for a mother, she came to jazz from rock, and that double inheritance is audible in her choice of material: familiar songs rearranged for small jazz line-ups.
Norby co-founded Street Beat in 1982, then sang with the jazz-rock group Frontline for two years and, from 1985 to 1993, with One-Two alongside Nina Forsberg. She turned to jazz in 1995 with a self-titled debut for Blue Note, co-produced by Niels Lan Doky, followed in 1996 by My Corner of the Sky, which drew on American players including Michael Brecker and Randy Brecker. Her 1999 album Queen of Bad Excuses paired her with Lars Danielsson, and First Conversation arrived in 2002. Turning 60 in 2025, she marked the milestone with Sixty, followed by four sold-out shows at Hotel Cecil.
