About Captain Jack
Few dance acts from the 1990s are instantly recognised from a single track, but Captain Jack's title song, a drilled and insistent piece of eurodance, reached the top 10 in many European countries. The project, an American-German partnership formed in Darmstadt in 1995, built its sound on a female singer and a male rapper working over verse-chorus pop, with a military-drill image that set it apart. Its catalogue also found an unexpected second life in Konami's Dance Dance Revolution, where songs from the Dancemania albums became part of the game series.
The line-up has changed often. Sharky Durban and Liza da Costa recorded the debut album The Mission, and after Franky Gee replaced Sharky the pair released Operation Dance. Maloy and Illi Love later fronted The Captain's Revenge, which yielded "Dream a Dream" and "Only You". Franky Gee died in October 2005, and the project paused until 2008, when Bruce Lacy revived it with "Turkish Bazar". Laura Martin joined in 2010 and Back to the Dancefloor followed in 2011.
