About Charlotte Sometimes
Adopted as a baby and raised in Wall Township, New Jersey, Jessica Charlotte Poland has recorded under several names, including Charlotte Sometimes, JPOLND and Laces. At 14, around the time she was diagnosed with condylar resorption, a rare disease that affected her jaw and her ability to sing, she started playing guitar and writing songs. Her first stage name came from Penelope Farmer's 1969 children's book Charlotte Sometimes.
Her early band, J. Poland and The Pilots, played around New Brunswick, New Jersey before opening for artists linked to producer Alex Houton, who co-wrote her major-label debut. In 2008 she signed to Geffen Records and released Waves and the Both of Us as Charlotte Sometimes, peaking at No. 145 on the Billboard 200 and No. 3 on the Top Heatseekers chart. In 2012 she appeared on Season 2 of NBC's The Voice, being eliminated after the first live round, and that autumn released the Circus Head EP. In 2015 "Love Me Sober", produced by Dante Jones, introduced LACES, and by 2017 she was working as Jessica Vaughn.
