About Chat Pile
Few bands from Oklahoma City sound quite like Chat Pile, whose noise rock and sludge metal takes its name from the chat piles left by lead-zinc mining across north-eastern Oklahoma. The four members perform under pseudonyms: Raygun Busch on vocals, Luther Manhole on guitar, Stin on bass and Cap'n Ron on drums. Their sound draws on the sludgy weight of Godflesh, the scrappy absurdity of The Jesus Lizard and the experimental streak of Sonic Youth, while Busch names Big Black as their biggest influence.
Signed to the San Francisco label The Flenser, Chat Pile released their debut album God's Country in 2022, and Pitchfork gave it Best New Music. A cover of Sepultura's "Roots Bloody Roots" had come out as their 2021 single, and their European tour debut at Roadburn Festival in Tilburg in 2023 later appeared as the live album Live at Roadburn 2023. Second album Cool World arrived in October 2024, and in October 2025 they joined guitarist Hayden Pedigo on the collaborative record In the Earth Again. Who Loves the Sun was released on 4 September 2026.
