About Christy Moore

Few voices in Irish music have carried politics as far into the living room as Christy Moore's. Born in Newbridge, County Kildare, in 1945, he is a singer, songwriter and guitarist whose work pairs driving rhythms on six-string acoustic guitar and bodhrán with slower ballads. His commentary is political and social, written from a left-wing, Irish republican standpoint, and in 2007 RTÉ's People of the Year Awards named him Ireland's greatest living musician.

He was a founding member of Planxty and later Moving Hearts, but his solo career has been just as substantial. His first album, Paddy on the Road, was recorded with Dominic Behan in 1969. In 2000 he published his autobiography, One Voice. His album Where I Come From, released in 2013, featured the protest song "Arthur's Day" and peaked at number three in the Irish album charts. A Terrible Beauty, released in November 2024, was followed by a sold-out tour of Ireland in March 2025.
