About Collective Soul
From a basement demo in Georgia to a catalogue of thirteen albums, Collective Soul have built a long career in rock. The Stockbridge-born group, now based in Atlanta, is fronted by Ed Roland, whose brother Dean plays rhythm guitar. The current line-up also features Will Turpin on bass, Johnny Rabb on drums and Jesse Triplett on lead guitar. Formed in 1992, the band grew out of Roland's years in Atlanta's underground scene, where he had been making demos since the mid-1980s.
The breakthrough came with "Shine", which Atlanta's campus station added to rotation before Orlando's 101.1 WJRR made it its most requested song. Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid, released on the independent Rising Storm Records in 1993, was reissued by Atlantic Records in 1994, carrying "Shine" to No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock chart and No. 4 on the Mainstream Top 40. The self-titled 1995 album spent 76 weeks on the Billboard 200 and went triple platinum, with "December" and "The World I Know" reaching the top ten of the Hot 100. Dosage's "Heavy" later held the top of the Mainstream Rock chart for a then record-breaking 15 weeks, and Here to Eternity, a double album, followed in 2024.
