About Daoiri Farrell
Daoirí Farrell is a singer and a player of the Irish bouzouki, and the pairing of the two is what sets him apart in Irish folk. Born in Crumlin, Dublin, in November 1982, he had already joined the Góilín Singers Club when he spent ten years as an electrician before committing to music full-time.
His debut album, The First Turn, appeared in 2009 while he was studying for a Ceoltóir Diploma in Irish Music Performance at Ballyfermot College of Further Education. Further study followed at Dundalk's Institute of Technology, then an MA in Music Performance at the World Academy of Music in the University of Limerick. Back on the road and in the studio after the MA, he won the All Ireland Champion Singer award at the 2013 Fleadh Cheoil. That same year he began touring with FourWinds, a group that took the Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections in 2015 and released its debut album. In January 2016 he went solo at the Celtic Connections festival, and his solo album True Born Irishman followed in October that year. In 2017 he picked up two BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
