About Dinosaur Pile-Up
Few band names owe as much to a bad blockbuster as Dinosaur Pile-Up, which takes its name from a stampede scene in the 2005 King Kong remake that Matt Bigland found so absurd he joked he would start a band called after it. The Leeds alternative rock group grew out of songs he began writing in 2007 while still in Mother Vulpine, which he recorded late at night at the Brudenell Social Club, playing every instrument himself. The current line-up is Bigland on lead vocals and guitar, with drummer Mike Sheils and bassist Jim Cratchley.
Bigland recorded the debut album Growing Pains alone in a Bridlington home studio, and it appeared in October 2010 and was followed by a tour supporting Feeder, Cage the Elephant, Turbowolf and Twin Atlantic. The second album, Nature Nurture, came out in the UK in June 2013 and in the US in February 2014 via So Recordings. Third album Eleven Eleven was produced by Tom Dalgety at Rockfield Studios and was due worldwide in October 2015, but the lack of a worldwide distributor delayed its release elsewhere by almost a year.
