About DJ Luck and MC Neat
Few duos of the late 1990s UK dance scene built as steady a run of chart success as DJ Luck and MC Neat. Joel Samuels and Michael Rose, working under those aliases, mostly combine house music with UK garage, and their early reputation rested on a record that began life as a promotional dubplate, released at £5 before it reached a wider audience.
That single was 'A Little Bit of Luck', a 1999 track that peaked at No. 9 in the UK in January 2000. Later that year came a cover of Stevie Wonder's 'Master Blaster (Jammin)', retitled 'Masterblaster 2000' and featuring vocals from JJ, which climbed to No. 5 in June and remains their highest British chart entry. 'Ain't No Stoppin' Us', their version of Ollie & Jerry's 'Breakin'... There's No Stopping Us', reached No. 8 in October 2000, and 'Piano Loco' reached No. 12 and took them onto Top of the Pops. Much of their later output, including their debut album, was shaped by the underground producer Shy Cookie, who moved them away from sampling towards programmed and live instruments. By 2002 they were billed simply as Luck & Neat.
