About DJ Stingray

Sherard Ingram, better known as DJ Stingray, is a Detroit-born producer and DJ whose name runs through the city's techno and electro scene. He founded Urban Tribe and became a close associate of the electro duo Drexciya, a connection that still frames much of his work. As both DJ and producer he favours futuristic electro, choosing fast tempos and inventive beat patterns over more accessible, club-friendly rhythms, though he prefers to file his own style under techno.

His early path ran through Detroit's record trade: after school he worked at the Detroit Recording Institute before joining Buy Rite Music, the record shop where he got to know James Stinson. In the mid-1980s he met Kenny Dixon Jr. (Moodymann), and the pair held a regular slot at The Outcast Club. Stinson later invited him to tour as Drexciya's DJ and gave him his stage name, which he kept after Stinson's death in September 2002. He later moved to Berlin. His solo releases have appeared on WéMè Records, Tresor and his own Micron Audio, with INDUSTRY 4.0 arriving in 2024.
