Gary Mullen and the Works

About Gary Mullen and the Works

Gary Mullen came to fronting a band by way of a lifelong love of Queen and a television audition. In 2000, his wife and mother secretly entered him for Granada's Stars in Their Eyes, and he took the Live Grand Final with 864,838 votes, more than double the runner-up and a record for the show. That win opened the door to One Night of Queen, which he created in 2002 alongside his band The Works, and the act still builds its identity around his Freddie Mercury impersonation.

Since 2002 the act has grown steadily, and for the last five years it has played more than 150 shows a year across a range of countries. Gary has already taken One Night of Queen to the UK, Europe, the USA and New Zealand, with South America, Asia and Australia next on the list. Away from the stage he has recorded voiceovers for radio, television and computer games, and with long-term songwriting partner Barry Kelly he made an album of original material, Blood, Sweat and Beers, available on iTunes. Brian May personally invited him to the Queen and Paul Rodgers show in Cardiff, and left him speechless backstage.
