About Gazelle Twin
Behind the mask of Gazelle Twin is Elizabeth Bernholz, an electronic composer and producer who works from Leicestershire, England. The project began with an unlikely spark: a 2009 Loop Festival set by Fever Ray, which left her fascinated by how costume and disguise change a performer. Born in 1981 and trained in music at the University of Sussex, she has built her reputation on that idea of the mask, and it has stayed central to how her work is staged.
Her debut album, The Entire City, arrived in July 2011 to critical acclaim, carrying the singles "Changelings", "I Am Shell I Am Bone" and "Men Like Gods". Unflesh followed in 2014, and for its live shows she performed in a version of her old school PE kit, a deliberate return to adolescence and the feeling of being an outsider. Pastoral, her third studio album, came out on 21 September 2018, previewed by "Hobby Horse" and "Glory", and drew on rural life and Brexit. It topped The Quietus' Top 100 Albums of 2018 list. The project remains unsigned, releasing through its own label, Anti-Ghost Moon Ray.
