About Glykeria
Born Glykeria Kotsoula in Agio Pnevma, Serres, in 1953, she is a Greek singer whose career now spans more than three decades across Greece and Cyprus, with a following in Israel, France, Turkey, Spain and England. Alpha TV ranked her third among the nation's top-certified female artists since 1960. She began in 1974 in the Athens Plaka bouzoukia, singing Hadjidakis, Theodorakis and Loizos, and her long partnership with Stelios Fotiadis shaped much of her work.
Her 1978 debut for Lyra, Min Kaneis Oneira, came out alongside Giorgos Gerolymatos, and the live album me ti Glykeria Stin Omorfi Nyhta went on to break every Greek sales record up to that point. The double album Tragoudi Aisthimatiko in 1985 topped the year's album sales. In 1986 she sang Earini Symfonia at the opening of the World Championships in Athens, broadcast to 120 countries. Israel became a significant market for her: after her first performance there in 1993 she sang at the 1998 memorial for Yitzhak Rabin in Rabin Square, Tel Aviv, and in 1999 she played two concerts with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
