About Grupo Cañaveral

Grupo Cañaveral is a Mexican cumbia act with a Colombian-born founder at its heart. Humberto Pabón started the band in Mexico City in 1995, and the project has since become something of a family affair, with the Pabón name carried forward across two generations of the group's line-up.

The group's early progress was swift. Within three years of its founding it had three gold records to its name, and its catalogue includes songs such as No mientas más, No te voy a perdonar and Flor de mayo. In 2010 Emir Pabón, the founder's son, joined as lead vocalist and gave the band another hit with Hui pi pi. Its most recent listed release is the 2018 single Por un Caminito (En Vivo), a collaboration with Leo Dan, which was certified gold in Mexico. Taken together, these milestones trace a band whose name has stayed constant while its voice changed hands.
