About H-Town
Before H-Town had a record deal, they were three friends from Houston's 3rd Ward who performed at talent shows and plays. The Houston R&B group, built around the brothers Keven "Dino" Conner and Solomon "Shazam" Conner with Darryl "G.I." Jackson, took its name from the city's local nickname, and its sound rests on Dino's distinctive voice, which producer Bishop "Stick" Burrell built the records around.
Their debut, Fever for Da Flavor, arrived in April 1993 on Luke Records, the label run by Luther Campbell of 2 Live Crew. Its lead single, Knockin' Da Boots, topped the R&B chart and reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1994 the group won the Soul Train Music Award for Best New Artist. Beggin' After Dark followed later that year, with Emotions climbing to number 51 on the Hot 100, and Ladies Edition, Woman's World in 1997 marked a shift in tone after they cut ties with Campbell. Dino Conner died in a car crash in January 2003. The group released Imitations of Life in 2004 and were still recording with Pretty Ricky and Jodeci in 2010.
