About Haley Heynderickx

Fingerpicked acoustic guitar and lyrics that land their humour with considered timing: that pairing sits at the heart of Haley Heynderickx's music. The Portland-based singer-songwriter builds her playing on the fingerstyle techniques of Leo Kottke and John Fahey, and her introspective writing is lightened by well-timed levity. Born in Stockton, California, to a Philippine-born mother, she grew up in Forest Grove, a Portland suburb, where she first learned to sing in church.

Her debut EP, Fish Eyes, appeared in January 2016, the same year she released Among Horses III with Max Garcia Conover. Her first full album, I Need to Start a Garden, followed on Mama Bird Recording Co. in March 2018, earning a 7.3 from Pitchfork, and Stereogum made her an Artist to Watch. In 2023 she opened several dates on Tim Baker's Canadian tour. Seed of a Seed came out on the same label on 1 November 2024, and in November 2025 she and Conover issued the collaborative LP What of Our Nature via Fat Possum Records, which Pitchfork described as a spirited, serious collection of protest folk inspired by Woody Guthrie.
