About Jabbawockeez
Hidden behind white masks and gloves, the Jabbawockeez have made anonymity their trademark. The San Diego hip-hop dance group, formed in 2003 by Kevin "KB" Brewer and Joe Larot, takes its look from the 1990s San Francisco strutting crew Medea Sirkas. They have no designated leader, so choreography, music and design are decided collectively. Their style blends popping and b-boying with careful synchronicity to self-made instrumentals, which one member calls "Beat-Kune-Do", a playful nod to Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do.
The group's breakthrough came in 2008, when they won the first season of America's Best Dance Crew and its $100,000 prize. They had first appeared on America's Got Talent in 2007, being eliminated in the Las Vegas callbacks episode. Afterwards came commercials for Pepsi, Ford and Gatorade, a Shaquille O'Neal introduction at the 2009 NBA All-Star Game, and a backing role for Taylor Swift at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards. In 2010 they were brought to Las Vegas to debut their own stage show, MÜS.I.C, at the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino, becoming the first dance crew to headline a show in the city.
