About Jeffrey Lewis

Jeffrey Lewis is an American singer-songwriter and comic book artist, and the two rarely sit apart in his work. Raised on the Lower East Side of New York, he writes lyrics that are dense, literate and wry, often pairing bleakness with a hopeful message. His songs are rooted in local streets, naming Williamsburg, the FDR Drive and the East River, and he is counted among the antifolk scene that grew out of New York's SideWalk Cafe in the 1990s.

His first album, The Last Time I Did Acid I Went Insane, followed a 2001 deal with Rough Trade, which also released It's the Ones Who've Cracked That the Light Shines Through in 2003 and City and Eastern Songs in 2005. October 2007 brought 12 Crass Songs, a set of Crass numbers reworked in his antifolk style. In 2010 five songs he wrote with Kimya Dawson during a week in Austin appeared as The Bundles on K Records. His comic series Fuff ended in 2020 with issue 12.
