About Jim Lauderdale

Jim Lauderdale writes songs that other artists keep recording, and he has kept making records of his own alongside them. Born in Troutman, North Carolina, in 1957 and raised in Due West, South Carolina, he works across country, bluegrass and Americana. George Strait, Gary Allan, Elvis Costello, Blake Shelton, the Dixie Chicks, Vince Gill and Patty Loveless have all recorded his material. As a boy he learned drums, harmonica and banjo, and bluegrass was in his ears early, with Ralph Stanley cited as a lasting influence.

Since 1986 he has released 31 studio albums. Lost in the Lonesome Pines, made with Ralph Stanley in 2002, won the Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album, and The Bluegrass Diaries took the same award in 2008. In 2003 Donna the Buffalo joined him on Wait 'til Spring, and Could We Get Any Closer? earned a Grammy nomination in 2009. He recorded Buddy and Jim with Buddy Miller in three days in Miller's home studio in 2013. In 2007 he took part in the American Beauty Project, reimagining Grateful Dead albums in performance, and in April 2018 he signed to Yep Roc Records ahead of the August release of Time Flies.
