About Jody Wisternoff

Wisternoff's name is most closely tied to Way Out West, the progressive house duo he formed with Nick Warren after meeting him in a Bristol record shop. Yet his reach stretches further: as a solo producer and DJ he has worked across everything from early 1990s hardcore to deep house, and his Bristol roots, where dub textures met club rhythms, run through much of his output. Born in England in 1973, he came up through the city's scene and has built a career that moves easily between the dancefloor and the studio.

His first break came in the late 1980s as half of Tru Funk Posse with his brother Sam, when Bristol producers Smith & Mighty opened their studio to them. Through the mid-to-late 1990s he was a resident DJ at Temptation, a Friday night club at Lakota. Way Out West's "The Gift" and "Ajare" brought the duo success, and their fifth studio album, Tuesday Maybe, came out in 2017. His solo debut, Trails We Blaze, arrived on Anjunadeep on 28 May 2012, preceded by the single "How You Make Me Smile" featuring Pete Josef.
