About John Doyle
Dublin-born guitarist and singer John Doyle has spent much of his career in the company of others, and the list of players who have worked with him says a good deal about his standing in Irish traditional music. He was born in Dublin in 1971, emigrated to the United States in 1991, and now lives in Asheville, North Carolina. His singing and guitar work sit at the heart of a career that moves between group projects and solo performance.
He is best known for his work with Solas and Usher's Island, two groups that feature prominently in his career. He has also collaborated with a notable roster of traditional Irish musicians, including Liz Carroll, Michael McGoldrick, John McCusker, Andy Irvine and Eileen Ivers. Touring has taken him further afield, with stints on the road alongside Joan Baez and Mary Chapin Carpenter, and his solo recordings run alongside this body of collaborative work.
