About Journey
A single track, 'Don't Stop Believin'', now stands as the top-selling digital song in US history, yet the band behind it began in San Francisco as something quite different. Formed in 1973 by former members of Santana, the Steve Miller Band and Frumious Bandersnatch, the group started as a progressive rock act with jazz fusion roots before its 1978 album Infinity embraced pop arrangements. Guitarist Neal Schon and keyboardist Jonathan Cain remain in the line-up.
Their commercial peak came between 1978 and 1987, with Steve Perry on lead vocals. Escape reached number one on the Billboard 200 and produced 'Open Arms', while Frontiers (1983) climbed to number two in the United States and number six on the UK Albums Chart. Greatest Hits (1988) has been certified 18 times platinum by the RIAA. After a 1996 reunion album, Trial by Fire, the band regrouped twice, with Steve Augeri from 1998 to 2006 and Arnel Pineda from 2007 onward.
