About Kim Churchill
Born in Canberra in 1990 and raised in the coastal town of Merimbula, Kim Churchill builds his folk, rock and blues songs around a guitar, blues harp and stomp box. His start came when his father promised him a guitar for doing well at school, and a decade of classical training followed. Surfing runs through his writing, feeding both his lyrics and the videos that accompany them, while his live setup stretches to drums, lapsteel and percussion.
His debut single, "Loving Home", won steady airplay on Triple J and ABC Radio National, and festival slots at Bluesfest, Woodford and the Montreal International Jazz Festival took him well beyond Australia. Detail of Distance, recorded in Vancouver and produced by Tod Simko, arrived on Indica Records in 2012, followed by a pan-Canadian tour and a 2013 run supporting Billy Bragg. Silence/Win came out through Fontana North in 2014, and its track "Some Days the Rain May Fall" reached number 86 on the ARIA Singles Chart. A remix of "Window to the Sky" by The Avener charted in France, and in 2023 the original was certified Platinum by ARIA.
