About King King

King King takes its name from a Los Angeles blues club that burnt down, a fate immortalised on a live album by The Red Devils. Formed in Glasgow in 2008 by Alan Nimmo and Lindsay Coulson, both formerly of The Nimmo Brothers, the group plays blues rock built around Nimmo's guitar and lead vocals, and his kilt on stage has become one of its trademarks.

Their debut EP, Broken Heal, arrived in December 2008 on Superb Duck Records, and a first full session on Paul Jones's BBC Radio 2 show followed in December 2009. The debut album, Take My Hand, came out in March 2011 on Manhaton Records, and at the 2012 Newark Blues Festival it won the British Blues Album award while the band took the Best British Blues Band prize. Standing in the Shadows (2013) and Reaching for the Light (2015) followed, and in 2014 the band toured the UK for 34 dates supporting John Mayall. Their live album King King Live reached number 86 in the UK Albums Chart, and Exile & Grace, released in October 2017, reached number 31 there.
