About LCD Soundsystem
Few bands have turned a producer's hunch into a live institution quite like LCD Soundsystem. Formed in Brooklyn in 2002 by James Murphy, the New York group sits at the crossroads of post-punk, electronica and dance, and its records are built from analogue synthesisers and drum machines played alongside guitars and live drums. Murphy's lyrics hold irony and sincerity in one breath, circling around ageing, love and the difficulty of letting go.
The debut single "Losing My Edge" came out in 2002, and the first album followed in January 2005 to acclaim, placing eleventh in that year's Pazz & Jop poll. Its most successful single, "Daft Punk Is Playing at My House", reached number 29 on the UK singles chart. In 2006 they released 45:33, a long piece commissioned by Nike. Sound of Silver (2007) was named album of the year by The Guardian, Uncut and Drowned in Sound. After disbanding in 2011 with a sold-out farewell at Madison Square Garden, they reunited in 2015. American Dream (2017) gave them their first US number-one album, and its single "Tonite" won the Grammy for Best Dance Recording. They are now working on a sixth album.
