About Leftover Crack
Leftöver Crack started life as a dumping ground for songs that Choking Victim never recorded, and the joke at the heart of the name is that crack addicts rarely have any left over. Formed in 1998, the band mix hardcore punk, ska and crust punk into a sound that carries political lyrics aimed at religion, capitalism and authority. Members live in the C-Squat on Avenue C in Manhattan's Lower East Side, and the New York natives' long, documented run-ins with the NYPD predate the band itself.
Their first release, the Rock the 40 Oz. seven-inch, appeared on Bankshot! Records in March 2000, after a track on Hellcat Records' Give 'em the Boot compilation brought a contract. Hellcat balked at the album Shoot the Kids at School, so the band retitled it Mediocre Generica, which came out on September 11, 2001. Second album Fuck World Trade followed on Jello Biafra's Alternative Tentacles in August 2004, though chains such as Wal-Mart and Best Buy banned it. The death of drummer Brandon Possible in late 2004 led to an indefinite hiatus, and the band returned to touring in summer 2005.
