About Luke Morley

Few guitarists have spent as long at the centre of British hard rock as Luke Morley, who has written and produced much of the material for Thunder since they formed in 1989. Born in Camberwell, south London, he met Danny Bowes at school, and the two became friends and musical partners. Morley is the group's guitarist, chief songwriter and producer, and his name is bound up with the band's sound from the beginning.

Morley and Bowes formed Nuthin' Fancy before going on to Terraplane, who played the Reading Festival in 1982 and released two albums before splitting in 1988. Thunder followed in 1989 and signed with EMI that year. Morley later played lead guitar in the Union with Peter Shoulder, releasing three albums before Thunder reformed in 2011 and went on to make five more. His solo work includes El Gringo Retro (2001) and Tales from the Blue Room (2023), recorded during the COVID-19 lockdowns. In 2023 he also became guitarist and producer for the Quireboys.
