About The Maine
A hardcore band that lost its singer became The Maine, the American rock act formed in Tempe, Arizona, in 2007. Bassist Garrett Nickelsen and drummer Patrick Kirch, still at high school, regrouped under a new name taken from Ivory's song "Coast of Maine". Their frontman, John O'Callaghan, joined after auditions despite having no prior vocal experience, and the band later pushed for a poppier sound than on their early EP.
Their debut EP, Stay Up, Get Down, came out in May 2007, and the group signed to Fearless Records that November. Debut album Can't Stop Won't Stop arrived in July 2008 and entered the Billboard 200 at number 40, with its single "Into Your Arms" following after the band joined Warner Bros. Records in 2009. Black & White, produced by Howard Benson, reached number 16 on the same chart in 2010. Since then they have independently released eight albums, most recently Joy Next Door in 2026.
