About Marty Stuart
Marty Stuart has spent most of his working life moving between the bandstand and the studio, and the result is a country singer whose records carry the grit of bluegrass and the swagger of rockabilly. Born in Philadelphia, Mississippi, he was barely a teenager when he began touring with Lester Flatt, and he later joined Johnny Cash's road band. That apprenticeship shows in his playing and in his instinct for a good cover, but it also shaped the distinctive stage dress and the sense of showmanship that have set him apart from his peers.
Stuart's first solo album for Columbia gave him his initial entry on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart with "Arlene", though later singles from that period struggled. He moved to MCA Records in 1989, where Hillbilly Rock produced his first top-10 country hit with its title track in 1990, and Tempted followed in 1991. His most successful chart entry came the following year with "The Whiskey Ain't Workin'", a duet with Travis Tritt that reached number two and earned him his first Grammy Award. The pair then took their collaboration on the road as the No Hats Tour. Stuart has since recorded more than 20 studio albums and is a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
