About Meshuggah

Few bands have shaped the sound of heavy music as directly as Meshuggah, the Swedish extreme metal group formed in Umeå in 1987. Built around polymetered song structures and tangled polyrhythms, their music has earned a cult following in underground circles and has inspired a generation of metal bands. In the late 2000s it also gave its name to the djent subgenre, a legacy that still shapes much guitar-driven heaviness.

Their 1995 album Destroy Erase Improve, recorded with producer Daniel Bergstrand at Soundfront Studios in Uppsala, is one of the key points in their early output. Recognition followed in the next decade: Swedish Grammis Award nominations in 2006 for Catch Thirtythree and in 2009 for obZen, and a 2018 Grammy nomination for "Clockworks" in the Best Metal Performance category. The obZen world tour ran from 2008 to 2010, and the band has played major festivals including Ozzfest and Download. The current lineup of Jens Kidman, Fredrik Thordendal, Mårten Hagström, Tomas Haake and Dick Lövgren released Immutable in April 2022 through Atomic Fire Records.
