About MEUTE
Picture eleven musicians turning a deep house record inside out on a city street, and you have the core idea behind Meute, a techno marching band from Germany. The Hamburg-based collective takes well-known techno, house and deep house tracks by established DJs and rebuilds them around the sounds of marching band instruments, so that electronic beats emerge from horns and drums rather than machines. They aim to fuse hypnotic driving techno with expressive brass band music, pulling electronic music away from the DJ desk.
Meute was founded in Hamburg in 2015 by trumpeter Thomas Burhorn. Their breakthrough came in early 2016, when a video of their take on 'Rej', by the Berlin duo Âme, went viral and passed 400,000 YouTube views within a week. The debut album Tumult followed in mid-2017, and the band spent their early years touring clubs across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Luxembourg. A version of 'You & Me' filmed during an unannounced Berlin performance in 2018 has since been viewed more than 72 million times, their most-watched clip. Their first live album, Meute Live In Paris, arrived in 2019, and they performed at Coachella in April 2025.
