About Momo
Marcelo Elisio Vianna Frota, known as Momo, is a Brazilian singer-songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer whose lyrics switch between Portuguese, English and French. Born in 1979, he first made his name in the early 2000s as a co-founder of Fino Coletivo, a Brazilian collective, before striking out on his own. He holds a journalism degree and is working toward a master's in Designing Audio Experiences in London, where he now lives.
His debut solo album, A Estética do Rabisco, arrived in 2006, and The Chicago Reader named it among the best albums of that year. In 2015 he moved to Lisbon, where he recorded Voá, his fifth album, produced by Marcelo Camelo of Los Hermanos and featuring fado singer Camané; the record drew praise in both Brazil and Portugal. In 2019 he recorded I Was Told to Be Quiet in Los Angeles with Tom Biller, whose credits include Warpaint and Fiona Apple. Most recently, Gira, his seventh album from 2024, was made at the Total Refreshment Centre in East London with British jazz musicians and Alabaster DePlume, with whom he toured Europe in 2022.
