About Moses Boyd
Moses Boyd sits at the centre of London's jazz revival, a drummer whose work moves freely between the bandstand and the club floor. Born in 1991 and raised in Catford, south London, he describes himself as a second-generation West Indian, with Dominican roots through his father and Jamaican roots through his mother. He mixes nu-jazz and fusion with grime, electronica, highlife and broken beat, and calls his music an extension of the black diaspora, drawing on afrobeats, soca, reggae, drum and bass and jungle. The Guardian has called him a progenitor of the current London jazz scene.
Boyd and saxophonist Binker Golding formed the duo Binker & Moses in 2014, releasing three consecutive albums with accolades including a MOBO Award, two Jazz FM Awards and a Parliamentary Jazz Award. Their fourth, Feeding the Machine, arrived in 2022 to critical acclaim. His solo debut came as the Absolute Zero EP in 2017 on his own Exodus Records, followed by Displaced Diaspora in 2018, and his debut solo studio album Dark Matter (2020) was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Collaborators have included Beyoncé, Little Simz, Floating Points and Four Tet.
