Nadja Benaissa

Few German pop careers have folded back on themselves as often as that of Nadja Benaissa, a singer, songwriter and television personality born in Frankfurt in April 1982. She first came to attention through Popstars, the German version of the reality talent show, which placed her in No Angels, a commercially successful girl group of European origin. Her path since has been defined by returns: to the band, to a solo career that turned to German-language soul and R&B, and to music again after years away.

Her breakthrough came with the No Angels debut album Elle'ments (2001), which entered the top of the Austrian, German and Swiss charts, and the group later logged four number-one singles before announcing its split in 2003. Her solo album Schritt für Schritt (2007) featured the top 40 single "Ich hab dich", and in 2006 she had represented Hesse at the Bundesvision Song Contest, finishing fourth. She stayed with No Angels after their 2007 reunion until leaving in 2010, and published the autobiography Alles wird gut. In 2019 she returned with the a cappella group Medlz, recording two studio albums, before rejoining No Angels in 2021 for their 20th anniversary.
