Night Lovell

Few rappers have built a following as quickly from a single track as Night Lovell, the Canadian artist, songwriter and producer born Shermar Cuba Paul. Dark Light, a song that spread widely online in 2014, set the terms for what followed: a sound steeped in shadow and restraint. Sitting somewhere between drill, trap and cloud rap, his music adds ambient textures that let the gloom hang in the air, while the lyrics circle introspection and angst with a candour that rewards close listening.

Since then he has released four studio albums, beginning with Red Teenage Melody in June 2016 and followed by Goodnight Lovell in February 2019, Just Say You Don't Care in May 2021 and I Hope You're Happy in December 2023. In September 2021 he appeared on Corpse Husband's track Hot Demon Bitches Near U, a collaboration with the American YouTuber and musician. By 2023 his catalogue had been streamed more than 750 million times on Spotify worldwide.
