About Oceans Ate Alaska

Oceans Ate Alaska take their name from the 1958 Lituya Bay earthquake and megatsunami, the disaster that swallowed one of Alaska's gulfs, and their music has a similarly sweeping scale. Formed in 2010 by students at Birmingham University, this metalcore band from the city is often described as dissolving the borders between genres in modern metal. Unpredictable polyrhythms sit alongside passages where melody and dissonance collide.

The debut EP, Into the Deep, appeared in May 2012 on Vagrant Records and was reissued later that year by Density Records. After signing to Fearless Records in October 2014, they put out the single Blood Brothers and then their debut album, Lost Isles, in February 2015. That year they featured on the label's Punk Goes Pop 6 with a cover of Beyoncé's Drunk in Love, and in 2016 they played the full Vans Warped Tour. Vocalist James Harrison left in December 2016, and Jake Noakes replaced him for Hikari, a 2017 album that blended Japanese instruments. Harrison returned in 2020, and the most recent album, Disparity, arrived on 1 September 2022.
