About Pelican

Pelican are an American post-metal band from Chicago, Illinois, and their music is almost entirely instrumental. Formed in 2001, they weave dense combinations of melody into extended tracks, producing a sound that is heavy yet atmospheric. Their work has been filed under stoner rock, doom metal and post-rock, labels the band has itself been wary of.

Their path has been steady. The band moved from Hydra Head Records to Southern Lord, releasing the Ephemeral EP in June 2009 and the album What We All Come to Need that October, with Greg Anderson and Aaron Turner appearing on it. Its track "Ephemeral" later featured in the end credits of the 2013 horror game Dead Space 3. Following a 2012 European tour, guitarist and founding member Laurent Schroeder-Lebec left amicably, and Forever Becoming arrived in October 2013. Nighttime Stories, their sixth studio album, followed on June 7, 2019, and in 2022 Schroeder-Lebec returned for live performances after Dallas Thomas departed.
