About Police Dog Hogan
Few British bands sit as comfortably between country, rock and bluegrass as Police Dog Hogan, whose sound folds in Americana as well, giving the music a loose, unfussy warmth. Active since 2008, the group grew from a partnership between vocalist James Studholme and fiddle player Eddie Bishop, and its line-up of mandolin, banjo, fiddle and trumpet keeps the textures open and rooted.
The catalogue now runs to six albums and three EPs. From the Land of Miracles, the second album, was produced by Eliot James, while Westward Ho! and Wild By The Side Of The Road were shaped by Al Scott, whose credits include Oysterband and the Levellers. After a hiatus, the band returned in 2020 and released the Christmas single "First Christmas Alone", with proceeds going to the homeless charity Crisis. Overground came out in January 2022, and Lightning Strike, cut live to 2-inch tape in three days at Middle Farm Studios with Peter Miles, followed. A new single, "Seven Kinds of Rain", previews The Light at the Top of the Stairs, due on 10 April 2026.
