About Punchline
Belle Vernon, a town south of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, gave rise to Punchline, an American rock band whose records trace a path from ska-flecked punk to a sharper pop-punk sound. The trio that began the project, formed in the late 1990s, centred on Steve Soboslai on vocals and guitar, with Chris Fafalios on bass and PJ Caruso on drums. Their debut, How to Get Kicked Out of the Mall, blended pop and ska influences, and the ska fell away in later recordings as the pop-punk identity took hold.
The band signed to Fueled by Ramen in 2003, and the album Action, produced by Sean O'Keefe, followed in February 2004. 37 Everywhere, released in April 2006, was dedicated to the former Bayside drummer John "Beatz" Holohan (1974–2005) and featured guest vocals from Anthony Raneri of Bayside. After leaving Fueled by Ramen in 2008, the group set up its own label, Modern Short Stories, funded by $25,000 from Heavy.com's Contraband Contest, and put out Just Say Yes that September. Caruso departed in January 2009, and the group's ninth full-length, Somewhere to Land, arrived on 12 September 2025.
