About Pure Prairie League

Steel guitar and guitar duels sit at the heart of Pure Prairie League's sound. Craig Fuller, Tom McGrail and John David Call, all from Waverly, Ohio, formed the original lineup, and Call's pedal steel gave the band a country grounding that Fuller's guitar work pushed against. That tension defined the group's early identity, and it has carried the name through a long run of personnel changes.

The band's biggest hit arrived in 1975 with 'Amie', a song that had first appeared on the 1972 album Bustin' Out, recorded at RCA's Toronto studio with Bob Ringe producing. Across the 1970s Pure Prairie League scored five consecutive Top 40 albums, adding a sixth in the 1980s. They disbanded in 1988, regrouped in 1998 and still perform, with a current line-up of John Heinrich, Scott Thompson, Randy Harper, Jeff Zona and Jared Camic. Guitarists Vince Gill and Gary Burr are among the notable players to have passed through the ranks.
