Randy Travis w/ James Dupre
Helen DeVitt Jones Theater at The Buddy Holly Hall, Lubbock

Artist
Country

Few voices in country music have sounded as unhurried and certain as Randy Travis's baritone, a sound critics have set beside Lefty Frizzell, Merle Haggard and George Jones. Born in Marshville, North Carolina, he is recognised as a key figure in the neotraditional movement, the turn back toward older country sounds after the pop crossovers of the early 1980s. He has also worked as a songwriter, a gospel singer and an actor.
His breakthrough came in the mid-1980s with Storms of Life, which earned triple-platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. Since 1979 he has recorded more than 20 studio albums and charted more than 50 singles, 16 reaching number one on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart. His awards include seven Grammys, eleven ACM Awards and eight Dove Awards, and he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016. After leaving Warner Bros. Records for DreamWorks in 1997, he recorded gospel albums for Word Records from 2000. A near-fatal stroke in 2013 limited his singing, but James Dupré now tours with his songs, and two 2024–25 releases use AI-recreated vocals.
