About Rustin Man

Paul Douglas Webb, born in 1962, is best known to listeners as the bassist of Talk Talk, but his solo work has been made under the name Rustin Man. His path to the studio began at The Deanes School in Thundersley, Essex, where he befriended the drummer Lee Harris. The pair first played in the reggae group Eskalator before being recruited to form Talk Talk in 1981.

Webb played bass with Talk Talk until 1988, and his composition "Another Word", on The Party's Over, is the only Talk Talk song that Mark Hollis did not write or co-write. In the early 1990s he and Harris formed .O.rang. In the early 2000s he adopted the Rustin Man name and collaborated with Beth Gibbons on Out of Season (2002). He also produced James Yorkston's The Year of the Leopard (2006) and Dez Mona's Hilfe Kommt (2009). His second Rustin Man album, Drift Code, came out on Domino Records on 1 February 2019. In February 2020 he announced Clockdust and his first live shows since 2003, with five supporting musicians, but the dates were cancelled in September 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
