Before Ryan Cabrera became a fixture of the mid-2000s pop-rock charts, he fronted Caine, a school punk band he later admitted was as bad as its name suggested. Born in Dallas to a Colombian father and an American mother, he grew up in Flower Mound, a suburb of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and his songs settled into up-tempo pop-rock with a clear melodic focus.
Cabrera recorded the independent album Elm St. for free at Deep Ellum Studios after a studio engineer was impressed by three of his songs, and Atlantic Records signed him in 2002. Take It All Away followed on 17 August 2004, entering the Billboard 200 at number eight and eventually earning Platinum certification, with John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls producing. 'On the Way Down' peaked at number 15 on the Hot 100. You Stand Watching came in 2005, The Moon Under Water in 2008, and in 2014 he became the first artist signed to Dynamite Music. 'House on Fire' later reached number one on the US dance chart, and in 2016 the Beyond the Sky project released its first single, 'Right on the Money'.
