Sasha Sokol

Few Mexican pop careers have taken in as many stages as Sasha Sökol's. Born in Mexico City in 1970 to a father of Mexican and Ukrainian descent and a French mother, she first came to attention as a child in Timbiriche, the group assembled in the early 1980s as a Mexican answer to the Spanish band Parchís. Her path since has moved between singing, acting and presenting, and she is known simply as Sasha.

Her solo debut, the 1987 LP Sasha, sold over a million copies in Mexico, and its single 'Rueda Mi Mente' reached number one on Mexican radio. In 1986 she had left Timbiriche for Boston, where she enrolled at the Walnut Hill School for the Performing Arts. The 1988 maxi-single 'Diamante' went double platinum, and a 1993 break from the spotlight for rehabilitation followed. She returned in 1997 with 11:11 on Sony Mexico, whose single 'Seras el Aire' was a major hit. In 1998 she rejoined the original Timbiriche members for the double album El Concierto.
